Actuaries Erich Brandt and Greg Fears as they analyze and discuss groups who
have had adverse loss development, as well as how the industry performed this
past year compared to the last several years. To further enhance this study,
Mr. Brandt and Mr. Fears have teamed up with Professor Kevin Ahlgrim from
Illinois State University to analyze risk of material adverse deviation and
thresholds as observed in the past few years’ statements of actuarial opinion.
Erich A. Brandt, FCAS, MAAA, is a Senior Consulting Actuary with Pinnacle Actuarial Resources, Inc. in the Bloomington, Illinois office, with 20 years experience as an actuary. He has considerable experience in assignments involving loss reserving, funding studies, cost allocation mechanisms, loss cost projections, competitive analysis, captive feasibility studies, personal lines ratemaking and financial analysis of insurance companies.
Gregory W. Fears, Jr., ACAS, MAAA, ARM, is a Consulting Actuary with Pinnacle Actuarial Resources, Inc. in the Bloomington, Illinois, office. He has 15 years of experience in the property/casualty industry. He has considerable experience in assignments involving loss reserving, funding studies, loss cost projections, captive feasibility studies, risk margin calculations, simulation methods, deductible analysis, cost allocation mechanisms, financial analysis of insurance companies, commercial lines ratemaking and competitive analysis.
Kevin Ahlgrim, Ph.D., ASA, MAAA, is the Risk Management and Insurance Industry Researcher at the Katie School of Insurance and Financial Services at Illinois State University in Normal, Illinois. He is an Associate Professor in the Department of Finance, Insurance and Law and teaches courses in Property Insurance and Insurance Company Analysis. His research interests include the risk management practices of insurers, interest rate modeling, and subrogation. Prior to his academic career, Kevin worked as a health actuary and is an Associate of the Society of Actuaries and a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries.
