Join Pinnacle Principal & Consulting Actuary Tim Mosler and Consulting Actuary Nick Alicea as they examine medical professional liability (MPL) insurers’ recent financial results, the forces driving those results, and contemplate what may lie ahead for the MPL insurance industry.

Presenters:

Timothy C. Mosler, FCAS, MAAA, is a Principal and Consulting Actuary with Pinnacle in the firm’s Atlanta, Georgia, office. Tim has been in the property/casualty insurance industry since 1996 and has been providing actuarial consulting services since 2001. His long consulting career has focused on several lines of insurance including medical professional liability, workers’ compensation, general liability and commercial automobile. Tim provides actuarial consulting services to self-insured hospitals, medical professional liability insurers, physician groups, trust funds, captive insurance companies, and self-insured/large deductible plans. His experience includes developing workers’ compensation pricing estimates and development of actuarial software. Since 2007, Tim has been a member of the CAS Member Advisory Panel and in 2013 he was named to the CAS Committee on Health Care Issues. He is a past member of the CAS Examination Committee.

Nicholas E. Alicea, ACAS, MAAA, is a Consulting Actuary with Pinnacle in the Atlanta, Georgia office. He holds Bachelor of Science degrees in Actuarial Science and Statistics from Florida State University near Tallahassee, Florida. He has worked in the property/casualty insurance industry since 2011. Nick is an Associate of the Casualty Actuarial Society and a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries. Nick has considerable experience in assignments involving Loss Reserving, Rate Filings, Funding Studies, Loss Cost Projections, and Risk Margin Calculations. He has contributed on loss reserve analyses involving personal property insurers writing homeowners and dwelling fire coverage as well as multi-line companies writing commercial multi-peril, workers’ compensation, auto liability, and auto physical damage coverage among others. He also assists in developing rate indications and preparing filings for submission. Nick works closely with self-insured programs assisting with financial reporting of unpaid claim liabilities and funding. He is a primary contributor to projects involving medical professional liability and underground storage tanks.
