Pinnacle Demonstrates its Commitment to Local Community

Bishop Ranch, home of Pinnacle’s San Francisco area office, provides many opportunities for its tenants to meet. Bishop Ranch recently asked us to volunteer at the Habitat for Humanity East Bay/Silicon Valley’s Muir Ridge Development in Martinez, California. I used my Pinnacle Community Service day to volunteer – and also volunteered my husband. Although we were already familiar with the good work that Habitat for Humanity does, this was our first time volunteering for them.

Families have already moved into homes in Phase One of the development, and we were working on Phase Two. Habitat for Humanity expects this next phase to continue until spring. Future homeowners are selected based on need, their ability to pay 1/3 of their annual income for their mortgage and must also volunteer at Habitat for Humanity sites for 500 hours. Their sweat equity allows homeowners to purchase their homes without any down payment.

Volunteers that day included Bishop Ranch tenants and Ernst & Young employees. Some of us were experienced, while others were newcomers. Volunteers were split into several groups and we selected general painting. Our group spent the morning putting two coats of paint onto the first floor of one home. After a picnic lunch provided by Bishop Ranch, we started on the rest of the house. We were able to get a first coat onto most of the rest of it. One brave volunteer made it to the 4th level of scaffolding. For me, the 3rd level was sufficiently high. Although I was sore the next day, I was happy that Bishop Ranch and Pinnacle provided the opportunity for us to give back to our community.
